My Matshita is recognized and running at all times. If the inbuilt Windows 7 burner fails to work, what you might need is a driver as well as firmware update.

You may also have a look at Panasonic website and see if they have any driver for your drive. The usual is the CODE 39 or such issue, but that’s not a missing drive but a few registry keys we delete and the drive comes back.
It says that the driver is missing or corrupted.
