I have been shopping with Overclockers for years, very professional, quick delivery service, great customer service. My project for this weekend is to test the CPU in my board. I tried single sticks of RAM, etc. Power problems if it’s truly a power problem is most likely the PSU, then the motherboard. Customize The Tech Report That Opteron is getting old. The Neo4-F and Neo4 Platinum are first cousins– there are a few extremely minor differences, but the only significant difference between the two boards is that the Platinum uses the nForce4 Ultra and the Neo4-F uses the non-Ultra version of the chipset.
At the smi, sure– Core 2 still has a lot of viable CPUs relative to price– once you get into the high end Quad-cores, the prices are harder to justify on a new build. I hope this wasn’t too rambling, and I was able to give some helpful troubleshooting advice.

Just make sure it can meet the power demands of an Athlon64 and twin videocards, otherwise you’ll have a lot of headaches down the road. Over the last few weeks it sometimes wouldn’t start, but I’ve reset the connectors and it seemed to start OK.

Leading the way all along have been the major motherboard manufacturers. It’s nice of Krogoth to fill in for Chuckula over the holidays. If you didn’t detail it, someone would say you missed a step, so I think you did a spectacular mdi in diagnosing the hardware. Just PM me and we can arrange.

If you want to do active cooling and add a fan, I think you pretty much have to go “down” with the cooler to fit the fan. I’ll let you know how the replacement goes.

The layout of components on the K8N Neo4 Platinum is very good. I have the non-platinum version of the board- it’s been reliable for me but the one trouble platium is the northbridge fan.
M8n of it is probably OK. Whether you are experienced or a novice computer user, you won’t have a problem installing and setting up this motherboard.
